  1. Folks are so picky!! The comments about "what if you don't want that much chicken, etc.". They clearly have never had to do this.
Sorry, don't mean to sound so grouchy, but we are just so pampered, I guess.

  2. Wow. Your groceries are a lot cheaper than mine—even at ALDi. Lol. I spent $35 for a family of 3 for a year, including some extras. Milk was $3.99/gal at the cheapest place in the city then (ALDI—it’s cheaper now), so that was $8 a week right there. And noooope, there is no way to get those prices here. But even so, you can eat for quite cheap. I was pregnant then, too.

  3. IM WATCHING YOUR HUBBY ! he keeps this silly grin on his face like he knows something we don't . lol enjoyed this a lot keep up the good work . you are helping a lot of people stop and think .

  4. In Canada here, I have dairy allergy so we dont do that. I make our bread because its less expensive than buying from the clearance isle of my local store. I buy meat on clearance, and we have meat 2x a week to cut down on costs. We eat beans and rice a lot. My oldest usually eats breakfast at school so that alone saves money right there. We do a sandwitch, granola bar and a fruit and a vegetable for her lunches. If she didnt eat her dinner, she has leftovers for lunch. I make my own broth with veggie scraps and peels (keep em in the freezer until you have enough for stockpot). We ALWAYS take home food from family events like Easter/Christmas then I usually dont need to cook for a few days- just reheat!

  5. I just got a can of vegan toona and trying to figure out how to taste test on my grans. I still have 2 large pack of chicken breast. Is it true wensday is meat mark down at Wal-Mart.

  6. The reason people don't have the basics for cooking is this: people have gotten used to eating out at fast food, packaged dishes, and they don't know how to cook.

  7. haha – next day now – this is taking a while to watch – not your fault but mine – i am far too busy for my own good – you mentioned yeast in the freezer – darn good idea – in fact i use my yeast from frozen and have never had a problem – also have found even if the yeast is past its use by date it still does its thing from frozen – no defrosting of the yeast just use it frozen – in fact i have had a higher rise using it frozen – thanks for all your good ideas – it always pays to watch and you always learn something new

  8. gosh – talking about how to make ends meet with food – i can remember quite clearly when the mortgage interest rate was 22% here in new zealand i had my husband and 2 children to feed – i had a vege garden so huge it was amazing – in fact i ended up the 2 of them – 6 fruit trees as well on a tiny 1/8 acre section – the fruit trees i grew from the stones of the fruit – luckily there was an apple tree when we bought the house – for meat – that was hardly ever seen – for a roast i would buy what is called the flap of the sheep – that underbelly bit that is so fatty – i would stand at the bench and strip of all the fat and sinew then make a sage and onion stuffing and make that skinny bit of meat roll up around the stuffing – make gravy and fill the plate with veges from the garden – that meat tasted divine and we were very close as a family – now over here i have just heard that a cauliflower is $10 for the whole thing – fruit and veges are no longer cheap here – such a shame that the growers and the supermarkets are sooooooooo greedy and dont care about the people and their families struggling

  9. My favorite stretched meals are quesadillas or anything with tortillas they can be billed with any left over meat and veggies. And I always turn meatloaf into spagetti then cheesy spagetti pie which it's self is two more nights lol. I'm good at stretching and recycling no-one ever knows it

  10. I serve 'restaurant' portions to my massive boys (180 lbs, 6'2 teenagers), and 250 (overweight/muscular) husband. After dinner, my husband always gets himself more food, by making toast and eating cheese/deli. Then, the boys sometimes follow his lead, just because he does it.
Later, he'll complain that there's no food to take for lunch?! ugh. I told him to not expect that I'm returning to the grocery store, just because he ate the 'lunch' foods at dinner time. I'm not in control of my groceries… I used to go to the grocery store 4 times a week. Now, once only. We have a No Frills (cheaper than Walmart) and a Walmart. I'll hit Costco only once a month, for all of our meats and toilet paper for the month. I fill up my car at the gas station there, too. You guys are so real! It's refreshing. Thank you.

  11. I have 3 kids 7,5 and 1 and at times they eat more then me!! I am 26 and they say they are hungry about 1.5 hours after eating! Husband is a big eater aswell and he is not overweight at all am gonna give this a try but am afraid they won't get full ? thank you for all this advise trying to get out of 26k in debt

  12. Whenever I saw the leftovers were piling up in the fridge, I would tell my family it was potluck night. Anyone could pick any leftover they liked from the fridge for dinner. My kids loved getting to pick for themselves. 🙂

  13. I ALWAYS gave my kids an option for their serving of vegetables. They could either take a spoonful on their own OR I could spoon it for them. They ALWAYS spooned their own! They chose a smaller spoon of course, and that was okay with me. 😀

  14. $26.00 can feed you. 1. Red beans and rice add a veggie like steamed or broiled carrots. 2. Butter pasta and broccoli. 3. Green Lima beans, corn bread, sauté cabbage. 4. Focaccia bread topped with veggies and pizza sauce add a salad. 5. Bean and cheese burritos. 6. Butter peas and mash potatoes.7. Green beans and rice. Then for breakfast and lunches are very in expensive. All our meals are usually meat free. We will splurge once in awhile for a meat dish. But it can be done, if you can’t afford it then you have to be frugal. I’m always looking to save. Thanks for all you’re info and help.

  15. Hi everyone. I’d like to be able to print this out but when I go to the link and all the info comes up, I don’t have that option. Is this available elsewhere so I can print it out?

  16. I do feed a 350 lb. lumber jack for real here lol. It takes a lot of food. But during the tight weeks I can do it for 50.00 or so. Once again it is just the concepts that work.

  17. I love y'alls outlook on things. Like the organic food thing. Y'all just do your thing and let em have it and I LIKE IT. Lol thanks for these videos and yalls work.

  18. Is coffee part of the budget? I've switched from the expensive k cups to instant to save money. Ive tried to quit it all but I have 3 year old babies…..

  19. I know that u can go to ur local dollar store for a lot of 1 food. I can usually find milk cheaper than aldi. Also bread to. And when my money really tight I can do a lot of shopping at the dollar store.

  20. Love you guys. Your right. Any meat can be used in those dishes from turkey, beef, pork, lamb, venison, even fish, just adjust cooking time. You don't even have to use meat, use lentils. Like you we are creative with leftovers. Tonight's mashed potatoes may become tomorrows pancakes, a whole baked chicken is eaten today, in stir fry tomorrow, or tacos, or in barbecue sandwiches the 3rd day, or thrown on a cold salad with cooked veggies, or labeled and frozen. We buy in season, pay attention to sales, and stock up when we see bargains. We do 2 meatless nights a week. We love the barilla plus spaghetti for the protein content. To make up for the texture of missing meat, we'll throw in a half cup or so of mushrooms.  We love eggs, and breakfast for lunch or dinner or dinner for breakfast is just fine with us. Out of rice? Use oatmeal. Not enough spaghetti sauce? Add cooked sweet potatoes? They are great in sauce, and we found kids prefer spaghetti sauce this way. Happy New Year everyone.
