Praline Cake

Ingredients

.....1/2 cup butter, softened

.....2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
.....2 eggs
.....2 cups all purpose flour
.....2 tablespoons cocoa
.....1 teaspoon soda
.....1/4 teaspoon salt
.....1 cup buttermilk
.....1 tablespoon vanilla extract
.....Brown Sugar Topping (recipe below)

Preparation

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating mixture well after each addition.

Combine flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.  Stir in vanilla.

Pour the batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Pour brown sugar topping evenly over cake.  Broil 5 inches from broiler element about 1 minute.  Cool and cut into squares.

Yield:  15 to 18 servings

Brown Sugar Topping

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup evaporated milk

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Yield:  About 1 2/3 cups
