Ingredients
.....2 cups all purpose flour .....2 tablespoons baking powder .....2 teaspoons sugar .....1/2 teaspoon salt .....1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter .....1/2 cup shortening .....3/4 cup buttermilk .....1/2 teaspoon soda |
PreparationCombine first 5 ingredients, mixing well; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.Combine buttermilk and soda; add to dry ingredients, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 10 to 12 times. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness; cut with a 2 3/4 inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 10 biscuits |
